CALGARY - The human remains found in the backcountry of Banff National Park in April has been identified, police said Thursday.

Banff RCMP said the remains belong to 49-year-old Mary Lynn Baltzer of Banff, who was reported missing by her employer on Oct. 5, 2008. Foul play is not suspected, police say, although the exact cause of death is still under investigation.

Police said they needed to use DNA samples to confirm Baltzer's identity.

According to the missing person's notice posted on various websites, Baltzer was last seen leaving work on Oct. 4th.

On April 21, hikers happened upon the decomposing remains in an area close to 40 Mile Creek.
